What Would Jesus Patent? God, Technology and Entrepreneurship
Science and religion are often in the limelight when it comes to questions of origins and human identity and so it is tempting to think that only Christians who are cosmologists or biologists would find their faith interacting strongly with the subject matter of their professions.
But what if you are an applied scientist, an engineer or a technology entrepreneur? Given that you are designing, inventing, or building rather than discovering or truth-searching, does that mean that your faith has no bearing on what you do, perhaps only on how you do it?
This seminar will take a look at the neglected faith-world of the applied scientist, especially those working in a commercial environment and ask questions such as “why are you doing what you do?”, “for whose benefit?”, “to what end?” and “for whose glory?”
About the speaker
Dr Andrew Jackson obtained his PhD from Reading University on the biomechanics of high-performance natural ceramics, and a Diploma in Medical Technology Management form the Scandinavian International Management Institute. He has worked in medical R&D to both develop and commercialise new technologies. He is now Director of External Affairs for the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion in Cambridge.
